The driver is called Walter Collinson and the Shunter is called Dalby. The picture was not dated, but it is likely that this photograph was taken during the 1950's or 1960's. The engine has a BR number and, on the side of the tender, a BR totem. British Railways came into being in 1948. However, the totem is of the later BR type, which replaced the 'lion & wheel' from the mid-1950's. Colwick was an Eastern region shed until around about 1965 (i.e. it had ex-LNER engines like this class). At this date the shed transferred to the LM Region, and its allocation of steam locomotives changed completely. The photograph was probably taken at Denton Sidings, a branch line off the Nottingham _Grantham line, worked by Colwick engines. (Additional information kindly supplied by Vic Smith).
