Edwards Lane
Nottingham,_Sherwood
England
Looking north down a rural Edwards Lane towards the bridge spanning Day Brook. At this date the road passed through a narrow cleft made through the sandstone here. Later with construction of the Sherwood housing estate, the road at this point was considerably widened but a faint echo of the onetime rock cutting remains today in the form of the raised front gardens of the houses that flank the highway. The photographer is positioned at the point where Edingley Avenue and Oxton Avenue subsequently joined Edwards Lane, while at the foot of the hill an intersection was created when the Valley Road portion of Nottingham's ring road was built. Picture the Past is grateful to website contributer Robert Drury for identifying the location of this view.
