Showing headstocks and railway wagons for coal. Upon the introduction of modern hopper-wagons in the mid-1960's, the type shown here on the left were identified by the acronym 'HAA' meaning, a wagon of the Hopper type, which is Air braked and has the facility to be Automatically loaded and unloaded. They were mostly used to carry power-station coal in what were known as 'Merry-Go-Round' trains, continuously shuttling back and forth without the need to stop, between those mines producing the highest tonnages of coal, and the largest power-plants, such as Marnham or Cottam.
