There are no details or information about this building, but the following suggests a few possibilities as to who was preaching here. In 1797, the Methodist New Connexion (sic) began in a barn at the side of Annesley Road, which was enlarged and improved in 1828. Primitive Methodists began preaching at a Mr Smith's house in Wood Lane in 1816 and The Wesleyans met for worship in a thatched house at the corner of Half Moon Yard, so any of these could apply to this building. Also of interest is the suffix of 'Torkard' shown here, which is traceable to the family resident there 600 years ago and derives from the 'De Torkard' family who were once Lords of Hucknall Library. It is listed in the Domesday book as 'Hochenale' and was subsequently known as Hucknall Library Torkard for many years, (It was probably added in order to distinguish the parish from nearby Hucknall Library-under-Huthwaite, and also from Ault Hucknall Library in Derbyshire). And was finally renamed just Hucknall Library in 1915. It was probably added in order to distinguish the parish from nearby Hucknall Library-under-Huthwaite, and also from Ault Hucknall Library in Derbyshire.
