Founded in 1875 the Home Ales Daybrook Brewery, famous for its gated frontage and 'beer mat' trademark bearing local legend Robin Hood firing his arrow, remained independent until sold by the family owners to Scottish & Newcastle (S&N), one of the National Brewers, in 1986. The company was always known as Home Ales but on the take-over called itself Home Brewery. It was closed in 1996 with production of it's brands moved to Mansfield. Brewing of the brands is currently taking place under contract at Everards. Home Brewery continues to be closely involved with the community through sponsorships such as Notts County and the Nottingham Playhouse. The distinctive white stone 1920's-30's main building has bas-relief friezes (similar in design to the Raleigh building in Nottingham) depicting the various stages of the brewing process. The rest of the brewery has been demolished, but this main building is currently used by The County Council.
