Hucknall Library Library was built on South Street in 1887, and paid for by J E Ellis and H B Paget. The yard at the rear of the library (left of picture ) was the store for market stalls when not in use. After a wet market day a man was employed drying the canvas roof sheets before a brazier and this would probably take untill next market day. This situation prevailed untill 1964 when a new Engineer and Surveyor Mr P B Sutton was appointed by the Urban District Council. One of the many innovations he introduced was the lightweight metal market stall system.
