Built by Mr George Green of G Green & Sons, Green Lane, Kimberley. This photo was originally dated 'circa 1950' but Picture the Past website contributor Noel Green commented: 'I am the grandson of George Green, so I do know a little history about the war memorial. I lived on Green's Lane until 1970 and started work at the Wolsey [textile] factory that can be seen behind the memorial in 1959 which was then a new building, I don't recall the exact date of build but it was definitely not there in 1950. Also the telephone box is a Type K9 that was first introduced in 1965. Finally looking at the long grass it is likely the photograph was taken after Wolsey Ltd closed it's doors to production around 1980.'
