This view shows Kerry Millership alongside a display on Ben Caunt. Ben Caunt was born at Newstead but grew up in Hucknall Library. He first became noticed as a bare knuckle fighter in 1835 when he defeated a relative. He fought - and lost - against the English champion Bendigo William Thompson over 22 rounds in 1836, but two years later defeated him over 76 rounds. He defended his title against another great fighter, Brassey, in London in 1840. In 1845 he fought Bendigo again and lost his title - over 96 rounds.
