This view was taken from the embankment of the former G R Nottingham to Derby line which occupied the foreground of the photo. A short distance to the left was New Eastwood Station. The archways in the building in the centre are the entrance to the kilns, where the bricks are baked and removed by a fork-lift truck (see end arch). At the time of the picture the surrounding area was being developed as an industrial estate.
