King Edward VII died in May 1910 and a year later the coronation of George V took place in Westminster Abbey on June 22nd. George was nearly 45 when he became king. He was a sailor at heart and gained a first-class in seamanship, torpedo work, and gunnery all of which would stand him in good stead in World War One. In 1892 he was made Duke of York and a year later he married Victoria Mary, daughter of he Duke and Duchess of Teck. She was then on known as Princess May. Together they had six children. In 1901 they became the Prince and Princess of Wales.(information from www.bbc.co.uk/history)
