King Edward VII died in May 1910 and a year later the coronation of George V took place in Westminster Abbey on June 22nd. George was nearly 45 when he became king. He was a sailor at heart and gained a first-class in seamanship, torpedo work, and gunnery all of which would stand him in good stead in World War One. In 1892 he was made Duke of York and a year later he married Victoria Mary, daughter of he Duke and Duchess of Teck. She was then on known as Princess May. Together they had six children.
