The windmill had seven storeys, and at 60ft high, the tallest in Nottinghamshire. It was probably built around 1820, as a windmill was advertised to let here, as recorded in the Stamford Mercury in 1821. The earliest recorded miller was William Taylor (1832) followed by the Hole Family in the 1840's-60's. The mill is rumoured to have been severely damaged by wind c 1880 when the cap and sails ended up in the Trent. In the 1930's the mill and farm were occupied by a Mr Wilson and his family. The house was built in the 1960's on the site of a demolished steam mill. Mill farm (right) and Teal's (Trent Gravels) Wharf looking south (upstream) from anti-flood bank.
