Bilsthorpe Colliery
Bilsthorpe
England
Looking east from former Great Central Railway bridge. In 1922 the greater part of the northern half of the parish was sold to the Stanton Iron and Steel Company which was responsible for opening the Colliery in 1927. The Colliery brought prosperity and expansion to the village. New houses were built by the colliery and the council to house the miners. A separate village grew up around the colliery, separated form the main town by the former Great Central Railway line and bridge. In 1985, the bridge was demolished and the villages have merged.
