Steetley Chapel is a Grade I listed building within the parish ofWhitwell. It was built in the mid 12th century, and is 52 ft long and 15ft wide and is tri-cellular - nave, chancel and apsed sanctuary.Pevsner suggests that as the chapel is lavishly decorated it must have aspecial purpose, possibly connected with the manor, though there is nomanorial evidence to support this. The nave and chancel of the chapelwere roofless right through the 19th century, until restoration worktook place in 1876-80 under J Pearson.
