Looking east from what today is The Square, at the junction with Wollaton Road, showing in the centre: The Bank (now Natwest's), Hallam's Greengrocers and the Cinema (now demolished). The buildings on the left are still there. Here they are occupied by George William Herbert's Butchers (seeNCCS000999), a haberdashers, the Maypole Tea shop and the Star Stores. On the right, on the corner with Station Road, is West and Co's clothiers shop.
