Railway Station
Upper Broughton
Nottinghamshire
England
By all accounts it was a well-kept station, the banks covered with primroses, and it was the only station on the line not to have goods facilities. The weekday service commenced on Monday February 2nd 1880. The last service was reportedly Saturday May 29th 1948, but the station didn't officially close until later that year - possibly September 27th. By all reports, the station saw reasonable numbers of passengers for the first 50 years. However by 1936, traffic and parcel levels were not adequate to justify the station having its own stationmaster, and control was transferred to the stationmaster at Widmerpool, although there were no immediate changes to the timetable. The stationmaster's house is pictured in the distance. (information from www.nottm-melton-railway.co.uk)
