The spoil in this picture came from Hucknall colliery. It was transported from the colliery by buckets on a continuous overhead wire system supported from pylons. Emptying of the buckets was tripped at the designated spoil heap then in use. The area which is now the golf course is as depicted on the photograph green fields subsequently to be covered with spoil and the complex of buildings adjacent to the spoil heaps was a farm. The area immediately south of of the houses from the top of the road was as now allotments. The industrial complex immediately east of Byron station was the premises of a marquee company.
