Pictured houses damaged in wartime aeroplane crash. The houses are at the corner of Ruffs Drive and Laughton Crescent, Hucknall, numbers 31 and 1 respectively. On 23 Sept 1940, Fairey Battle, K9480, an obsolescent light bomber relegated to training aircrew, piloted by LAC EW Rozmiarek of the Polish Air Force, (18 Operational Training Unit then at RAF Hucknall) stalled and crashed, killing himself and five members of the Evans family at number 31.They were: Albert Evans 28; Alice  Evans 3; Ronald Evans 8; Alice Evans  6; John Evans 2 who are all classed as Civilian War Dead at Broomhill Rd Cemetery. A Mr Smith and his six children at number 1 survived with various injuries.
