This picture is taken from a collection of glass negatives dating from the early 1900s and earlier, found in a former industrial building in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Some of the pictures in the collection show scenes in Newark, so we presume that this image, too, may have been taken close to the town.One contributor has suggested that the procession looks like a dismounted cavalry unit of the late 1870s-early 1880s.
