Allen Jackson's History of Retford was published by the Eaton Hall College of Further Education in December 1971. Showing (left to right) Councillor J G Lawrence (chairman), Mr K Stockham (County Librarian), County Councillor G McNeill (Chairman of the County Library Commission), Mr Allen Jackson (author and lecturer at Eaton Hall College), Mr E L Ableson (Principal of Eaton Hall College), Alderman Mrs A Yates (Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council), Mrs D Ostick (Mayoress), Councillor G Ostick (Mayor), Mrs A Jackson (wife of the author), Alderman B Pollard (County Library Commission). Also showing back right, Mr W G Lawson (Director of Education for Nottinghamshire). The library opened in 1927. It was presented to the town by Mr T H Denman to be used as a library and museum (though the building has only ever served as a library). See NCCN000295 for the exterior of the building.
