River Trent
Newark on Trent
England

Longstone Bridge was built in 1820 by the Newark Navigation Commissioners to replace one constructed of timber dating from 1773. The bridge carries the towpath across the mill backwater. The truncated chimney in the background once belonged to the Trent Brewery. In this photograph, the brewery (demolished in 1952) has been replaced by low level industrial buildings belonging to the firm of Wakes and Lamb, millwrights and wind pump manufacturers.
