To enable the trams to rach the alignment of the Mansfield railway line, the tramway turns sharply right and descends to railway level. The tram parallels the railway line all the way to Hucknall. That this is possible with both railway and tramway having double track as far as Bulwell demonstrates the vast quantities of coal coming from Babbington Colliery needing so much land for sidings.
