Farndon Methodist Church - originally the Methodist Chapel - was built in 1887, although the history of Methodism in the village goes back much further than that. The first Methodist services in Farndon are thought to have been held as early as 1810, when Peggy Herod, a widow who kept a weekday dance school in the village, formed a Sunday School instructing children in 'bible truths'. She was apparently persecuted for opening her cottage to Methodists, and she could have little known that shed was beginning a work that would see the Herod Family as staunch supporters right through to the 20th century. Following the death of Peggy Herod, Methodist services in Farndon continued in the schoolroom of Mr Henshaw. During this time, a Mr and Mrs Butler bought a cottage on the site now occupied by the Methodist Church (pictured), and services were removed here. In 1817, the Butlers' cottage was demolished and a new room built which served the congregation for the next 30 years. Then, in 1847, this room was taken down and a chapel proper built in its place. This building, in turn, remained in use for the next 40 years until the present Methodist Church (pictured) was built on the same site in 1887.
