A Crossley single deck coach (chassis code SD42/6) purchased by Gash in November 1948, and withdrawn from service in March 1963. The bodywork was by Yeates of Loughborough,. The 6 Cylinder, 8.598l engine is remembered as possessing a particularly distinctive sound. Driver Jack Robinson recalled of driving it, 'the engine sounded as if it was lubricated with sand'. The immediate post-war period marked the heyday of Gash's business around Newark with considerable expansion in the number of vehicles owned by the company. By 1950 they had 20 buses. This photograph was taken on Top Street. At the time W Gash and Sons had their HQ in Elston. The company moved to new premises in Newark in May 1953.
