The Ossington Coffee Palace (left) was built in 1882 by Viscountess Ossington as a temperance hotel. Situated opposite the cattle market it was intended to lure farmers away from the town pubs. It was never very successful. This photograph is taken from the Newark Castle grounds. In the background (far right) may be seen the business of Mather and Tomlyn.
