This view shows the interior of Staythorpe Signal Box on the Midland Railway Line from Nottingham to Lincoln. Specifically, this view shows the lever frame for operating the signals and points. There are 33 in all, one of which operates a locking system on the two pedestrian gates (which are opened and closed by pedestrians as required) and another to lock the gates in the closed to road traffic position. At the far end of the frame is the wheel and worm for operating the gates. This view also shows the block signalling instruments and the diagram of the points and signals. The photograph was taken by kind permission of signalman P. Spratley.
