Christ Church was built 1836-37, the architect being J D Paine. Pevsner notes that it is of 'three gables in stock brick with groups of three lancets at each end'. He also notes the galleries on cast iron columns, tall lancet windows and straight-ended chancel. The church was closed on 13th October 1957, and a new Christchurch opened on Boundary Road, Newark. This picture shows the clearing of the old Church after closure in 1958. The Lombard Street building still stands and is in use today (2003) as a furniture showroom.
