In his book 'Memories of Norwell' (publ. 1984) John Goodwin notes that a Charity School in Norwell was founded in 1727 to provide a basic education to six children of the village. The income for the schools existence came from and endowment given by John Sturtevant of Palishall in Norwell, and was based upon rent acquired from letting areas of land.
