A sign denoting the entrance to the Warburton Hotel (here styled The Central Commercial Hotel) may be seen above the archway. The ground floor of the hotel is let out as two shops, Parson & Stewarts military outfitters and E L Lee, family butcher. This frontage was demolished in 1962. When the demolition was in progress a collared dove was found amongst the ruins, the first time this breed had been seen in Nottinghamshire. The bird was photographed (in the Mount School) by Mr N J Antoine. The sighting was reported in both local and national press.
