Albert Street
Newark on Trent
England
This is a panoramic view of Newark from Hole's Albert Street (Castle) brewery, the horizon blurred by smoke from the industrial sector. Bottom left is the old bus station with open-top gents' toilets. When double-deckers were introduced after the second world war the toilets had to be closed as top deck passengers could see in. The picture was reproduced in the Newark Advertiser on Wednesday 8th November 1933. The caption reads: 'A bird's eye view of Newark. A photograph taken by Hunt & Co from Hole's Brewery Chimney, which has been undergoing repairs.'
