The clock was made in 1807 by John Whitehurst (Snr) of Derby. It was originally installed on the chapel at the Chauntry House on Appletongate, Newark. When the Chauntry House was demolished it was removed to the Magnus, where it's re-erection (as a memorial to Old Magnusians who fell in the Great War) was paid for by public subscription. The headmaster of the Magnus School at the time of the picture was Rev. Henry Gorse.
