The oak tree was planted in April 1981 to honour William Henry Dusty Hare (b. November 29, 1952) of South Clifton Parish. He scored most points in a Rugby Union career: scored 7,337 points in first-class games from 1971-89, comprising 1,800 for Nottingham, 4,427 for Leicester, 240 for England, 88 for the British Isles, and 782 in other representative matches.
