St Mary's Church from Stodman Street corner. When not in use the market stalls used to be cleared away. Shops shown here include Curry's cycles, Stennets printers and publishers (Newark Herald -ceased 1960), J H Phillips rope manufacturers, Coynes musical instruments and G H Porter grocers. Dominating all this is the majestic spire of the 12th century Church of St Mary.
