Newark Civic week was held between the 3rd and 10th July 1949 in celebration of the towns Quater Centenary of the granting of the first Borough Charter in 1549. Numerous events were organised throughout the week. This picture shows part of the 'progress parade' around Newark which covered 400 years of the town's history. Here we see the 'Sport Through the Ages' section on cycling featuring old bicycles ridden by members of the Newark Castle Cycling Club
