Newark Laundry Company LTD van. This van is another car conversion. The well proportioned coachbuilt body by Stephenson's of Newark is, in style, typical of circa 1922/3, the probable date of build. The body has been built onto the chassis of a Vauxhall D type 25hp car of circa 1918. Notice the early type mudguards and Rudge-Whitworth type centre-lock wire spoked wheels of the earlier car. During the 1914-18 War, Vauxhall Motors were contracted to build the D type for use as army staff cars. These were well built and reliable and when the War ended, numbers were available for disposal as surplus equipment. This van was probably the conversion of one of these. The photo was taken outside Stephenson's Motor Company Garage looking across to Kelham Road.
