This larger sized bus has coachwork by Stephenson's of Newark built onto a long wheelbase American-designed chassis, very probably a Dodge or a Chevrolet. Both companies had been manufacturing commercial vehicles in Detroit from about 1918 and exported chassis to this country for completion by British coach and body-builders. Dodge eventually set-up a British factory to manufacture commercial vehicles in 1923. This bus was built in circa 1926. The close-coupled twin rear axles were an advanced feature for that date, but would considerably increase the load capacity of the bus. Notice the American type wheels with bolt-on rims and large section "cushion" tyres.
