Van belonging to R A Freckingham, poultry and egg merchant, based at Sibthorpe, Newark. This van, coachbuilt by Stephenson's of Newark, has been built onto a Ford Model T commercial longer wheelbase chassis. This strengthened chassis had been introduced for the Ford 1 ton truck in 1917; previously Ford vans had been based on the Model T car chassis. The Commercial Model T chassis was available to coachbuilders for ten years until 1928 when the new more advanced Ford Model A was introduced. During that time the design was little altered so that by circa 1926 when this van was built, it still had no front wheel brakes and had paraffin oil side and tail lights, although the headlights were electric. But the van did have the advantage of low initial cost and simple maintenance.
