LNER Royal train at Ollerton Station, 1906

Ollerton Station
Ollerton
England

The train stopped at Ollerton on the way of King Edward VII's visit to Doncaster Races in September 1906. The train is an LD & ECR 0-6-2T, No. 26. Shows train in Ollerton Station, hauled by engine no. 26, Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway. Polished for the occasion and at the head of the famous coachjes of the London-North Western Railway. The royal coat of arms sits proudly on buffer beams. The Station Master, Mr Kemp (to whom Edward VII presented a tie pin) stands on the platform with his right hand on his chest. The engine crew are wearing military style jackets. The driver is on the left, and the fireman (Mr Fred Garner of Shirebrook) stands by his side. The gentleman standing directly below Mr. Garner with his chin in hand was Robert A. Thom, the locomotive Superintendent of the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway. The train is on the wrong track, having arrived from Tuxford and backed into the East bound platform. This was in order to be next to the entrance, so His Majesty did not have to cross the footbridge. (Information found on back of a duplicate photo at Ollerton Library).
