Albert Street
Newark on Trent
England

This is a panoramic view of Newark from Hole's Albert Street (Castle) brewery, the horizon blurred by smoke from the industrial sector. Just in the bottom left can be seen the old bus station with open-top gents' toilets. When double-deckers were introduced after the second world war the toilets had to be closed as top deck passengers could see in. The business of T.W. Garner Ltd., Sack Contractors, is located in a former malting which latterly formed part of the Robin Hood Hotel, visible before J.C. Kew's Coal Merchants, is Newark's Historical Beaumond Cross, seem here in its original position at the junction of London Road, Lomard Street, Carter Gate and Portland Street (see NCCE001059 for further information about the Beaumond Cross). W. Hickman's newsagents (extant 2007) may be seen directly to the right of J.C. Kew's.
