Northgate
Newark on Trent
England
This large brewery complex was developed after 1872. As well as brewing Warwicks & Richardsons also malted their own barley on site. This photograph shows detail of the pediment worked into the stonework above the main entrance of the company's offices, fronting onto Northgate. The building was erected in 1890 to the designs of architect William Bliss Sanders (who also designed Newark's General Hospital on London Road). Brewing ceased here in the 1960s and at the time this photograph was taken (1997) the buildings were awaiting conversion into luxury flats.
