Robert Wilkinson (1836-1913) owned of a brush retail outlet at No.55 (now No.61) Appleton Gate, at the entrance to Tenter Buildings. Robert Wilkinson was born in Leicester. The picture seen here is an oil on a photographic original and was produced by the Nottingham firm of Brown Barnes Bell, photographers and photographic painters. The portrait was commissioned in December 1881 when Robert was 45 years old and the artist was Samuel Drummond. For further information on Robert Wilkinson's brush shop see NCCE003707.
